Visit Norwegian Ski Adventure (Norsk Skieventyr) and immerse yourself in Norway’s rich skiing history, spanning from ancient Sami ski culture through fearless polar explorers and ski pioneers, to modern winter sports as we know them today. Norway, Telemark, and Morgedal hold a unique and important place in international ski history. Welcome to a day full of discovery and adventure.
The best place to experience Norwegian ski culture and Morgedal’s significance in ski history is Norwegian Ski Adventure. Here, you can explore Norwegian ski and polar history through a multimedia journey that begins 4,000 years ago and continues all the way to today’s snowboards and twin-tip skis.
The museum offers insight into the playful skiing that took place on the slopes of Morgedal in the 1850s — the very beginning of modern skiing. You’ll gain an introduction to general ski history, as well as the story of the pioneer Sondre Norheim. The exhibitions also tell the story of the race to the South Pole, featuring Olav Bjaaland, Norway’s first ski wax factory, and the history of the Olympic flame.
To conclude the visit, large-scale visuals across three screens invite you into the world of telemark skiing at a level that may inspire you to start your own ski adventure.
At Norwegian Ski Adventure, you can also try the museum’s ski simulator. Imagine yourself as Sondre Norheim, racing down Ordalsåta on skis from Jåfjell to Nystaul — or perhaps you’d prefer snowboarding instead.
Inside the museum, you’ll find a cozy café and a well-stocked museum shop. Friendly museum hosts are always happy to help you make the most of your visit.
Outside the ski museum, you can explore a 45-meter-long replica of the Morgedal watercourse, where children can play with log floating and power generation. From the museum, you can also walk up to Øverbø, the birthplace of Sondre Norheim.

The ski museum is open from May 1 to September 15. Opening hours: Monday–Sunday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM. Guided tours for groups can be booked year-round, subject to availability.
