📍 Midway between the fjord arms in beautiful Bindal lies the Vassås peninsula – a landscape where nature and cultural heritage meet in a unique hiking route. Here, people have gathered for centuries, and traces of both pre-Christian and Christian times are closely found along the path.
🕰️ Vassås Church has been a spiritual and social center since the 1200s, and the surrounding area is rich in burial mounds, stone settings, and old farm structures. The trail takes you through 11 historical stopping points – from chieftain mounds and boat-shaped graves to village museums and the viewpoint St. Hanshaugen.
👣 The Cultural Heritage Trail was established in 1992 in collaboration with the Science Museum in Trondheim and Nordland County Municipality. It is easily accessible and suitable for both locals, history enthusiasts, and tourists who wish to experience Nordland's hidden treasures on foot.
🚗 Access: Follow County Road 17 to Årsandøy, turn towards Terråk (fv. 801), and then towards Vassås (FV 7200). The starting point and parking can be found at Vassås Church.
