Discover over 135 years of porcelain history in Porsgrunn. Visit the exhibition next to Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik and see how the classic blue-and-white pattern is still hand-painted. Learn about industrial heritage, Norwegian design, and craftsmanship.
This visit takes you through a key chapter in Norway’s industrial and design history. At the Porcelain Museum, you'll explore exhibitions detailing the evolution of Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik from its founding in 1887 to today.
Learn how raw materials are shaped, fired, and decorated to become timeless tableware. The iconic pattern – a blue-and-white motif hand-painted since the factory’s beginning – remains in production and is one of the highlights of the visit.
You'll also discover how designers like Nora Gulbrandsen and Tias Eckhoff shaped the factory's artistic profile. For both adults and children, workshops are available where you can try painting your own porcelain piece – a hands-on way to engage with the craft.
The museum is located next to the active porcelain factory and on-site shop. Visitors may view production areas and purchase porcelain items during opening hours.
