Meet the indigenous Sámi people near Kirkenes, feed reindeer, sit around a campfire in a traditional lavvu tent, listen to Sámi storytelling and hear a live joik singing performance.
This 1‑hour experience begins behind the reception of the Snowhotel Kirkenes near Kirkenes, at 16:30. You will first meet four gentle reindeer and learn how they live, what they eat (you’ll hand‑feed them lichen) and their role in Sámi culture. The guide will explain the traditions of the Sámi people and their reindeer heritage.
Then the group walks into the reindeer pen and up to a lavvu, a traditional Sámi tent. Here around the campfire you will hear stories — part folklore, part from the guide’s own experience — and finish with a joik performance, the distinctive song style of the Sámi. The activity gives a grounded, personal cultural encounter with the indigenous traditions of Arctic Scandinavia.
Transfer to/from the meeting point is not included.
Please dress appropriately for Arctic outdoor conditions (warm layers, waterproof outerwear, sturdy footwear).
