Knaben Via Ferrata is located near Knaben Gård in Southern Norway. The route is established on the mountain Knabekniben, 786 meters above sea level, and offers easy access, solid rock, an inviting appearance, and a well‑established return trail.
The experience begins with a 10‑minute walk from the main road to the starting point. The first section of the climb takes you about 80 vertical meters up the initial wall, before the tour continues along a 600‑meter mountain trail leading to the upper part of the route.
In the upper section, you can choose between three different final routes with varying levels of difficulty – moderate, challenging, or very challenging. For those who prefer a shorter or less exposed experience, there is a clearly marked escape route after the first climbing wall.
From the top of Knabekniben, the descent follows a blue‑marked trail down to the main road. From there, it is approximately 1.1 km back to BaseCamp.
This tour offers a safe and social climbing experience. Led by an experienced guide who provides helpful advice and support along the way, the route delivers excitement, great exposure, adrenaline, beautiful mountain terrain, and stunning views.
For those who do not wish to climb, there is a well‑marked hiking trail leading to the top of the mountain, where they can meet the rest of the group.

- Age and weight requirements Participants must be at least 12 years old and weigh between 40 and 120 kg for the energy absorber to function correctly. This is a mandatory safety requirement for all participants.
- Health and physical condition The tour is suitable for individuals in normal physical condition. Participation is not recommended for those with heart conditions, severe fear of heights, or other factors that may affect safety.
- Weather conditions The tour cannot be carried out in poor weather. Strong wind, thunderstorms, heavy rain, or other unsafe conditions may require the tour to be postponed or cancelled. A new time or refund will be offered in case of cancellation.
- Route options In the upper part of the route, there are three different final sections. The guide helps the group choose a suitable route, and it may be possible to split the group if conditions and safety allow. This is decided by the guide during the tour.
- Escape route A clearly marked escape route is available after the first climbing wall for those who prefer a shorter or less exposed tour.
Minimum participant requirement Knaben Via Ferrata reserves the right to cancel guided tours if there are too few participants to run the tour.
Group coordination If multiple groups start climbing at the same time, the order must be coordinated. A short time interval between groups is recommended, and climbers with the most experience should start first.
