We will meet at the equestrian statue of King Karl Johan on Slottsplassen – an iconic figure who not only gave his name to the main street but also decided the location of the Royal Palace, shaping the city’s development as one of the urban planners of his time.
In 1905, Norway became an independent nation, and we chose a new king and queen. But how did this come about, and why were they chosen? During our walk among the sculptures in the beautiful Palace Park and Queen’s Park, we will explore the fascinating history of Norway’s royal family – from the dissolution of the union, through the challenges of World War II, to our People’s King, Olav V, and the modern royal family, who navigate both admiration and criticism in today’s society.
Along the way, we will also take time to enjoy the park’s stunning flowers and plants. The tour will end in front of Oslo City Hall.
