Do you want to explore the wondrously mystifying world of blue ice? Then this tour is for you! Experience one of Norway’s favourite outdoor recreational activities, glacier hiking, with Folgefonni Breførarlag. The hike will be about 6 kilometres and can be altered to suit your group’s preference and the weather conditions.
On a typical day of the activity, you will meet at the Guide Shop at Fonna Glacier Ski Resort before 10:00 am. Once all the participants have collected their equipment for the experience, there will be a safety briefing. You will then embark on your adventure with an experienced guide to lead you. During the hike, they will tell you interesting facts about the area’s topography, climate, and Norwegian culture in general.
During the 6-hour hike, you will trek through varying terrains, from flat ice to more challenging areas like crevasses, so keep your equipment handy at all times. When you reach the Juklavass glacier, you cannot help but notice the beautiful hues of blue from beneath the ice! There will be ample opportunities to capture some shots of you and your loved ones in the middle of the glacial wonder.
The group will break for lunch at the perfect spot from where you can see the spectacular views of the North Sea and the Rosendal alps. Once you’ve had your lunch and had enough time to rest and click pictures, you will make your way back to the Fonna Glacier Centre and reach there by about 4:00 pm.
Participants are advised to wear warm, waterproof clothing, gloves, sunglasses, and mountain boots for the blue ice hike. No matter what the weather condition is, always wear sunscreen for the activity. Carry a backpack to store all the glacier equipment you need for ice climbing/hiking. Bring lunch and water along to keep yourself refreshed. If you’ve booked this tour at the last minute and didn’t get the time to pack gloves or waterproof clothing, they are available on rent. You can buy sunglasses, sunscreen lotion, maps, snacks, and lunch/food packages from the organizers.
The hike is about 5-6 km in total walking distance, and about 300-400 meters height difference.
Participants will be back at Fonna Glacier Center between 15:00 and 16:00 in the afternoon.
The hike can be adjusted for everyone above 10 years old.
Maximum participants per guide is 10 persons.
