Thank you for booking Where the City Ends and the Forest Begins – Bymarka Hike. We look forward to taking you beyond Trondheim’s historic city and into our local forests.

Meeting point – Ilaparken

We meet at Ilaparken, a 20-minute walk from Trondheim city centre.

Please arrive 15 minutes before departure and look for your Trondheim by Foot guide.

From Ilaparken, we travel together by public transport into Bymarka. Your bus ticket is included in the tour.

The hike

The walk is 7 km and takes around 2.5 hours, following forest paths through Bymarka and past Kobberdammen, Baklidammen, Lavollen and Theisendammen.

This is a family-friendly, easy to moderate hike, but please remember that we are walking on natural forest trails. There will be uneven ground and some uphill sections.

A stop at Lavollen

Along the way, we stop at historic Lavollen, once a crofter’s farm and summer pasture and today a much-loved hiking café.

A sweet bakery treat is included in your ticket. Additional food and drinks can be purchased at the café if you wish.

What to wear

Norwegian weather can change quickly, and conditions in Bymarka may be different from those in the city centre.

Please bring:

Good walking shoes with suitable grip
Comfortable outdoor clothing
A waterproof/windproof jacket
An extra warm layer
A small bottle of water

Returning to Trondheim

The guided hike ends at Theisendammen. From here, we take the public bus back towards Trondheim city centre. The journey takes around 15–20 minutes and your transport is included.
